  • Burrow Books Co. is a clinical media and publishing house dedicated to pediatric health literacy. Guided by frontline clinical expertise, we create intentional resources that take the fear out of medicine, translating complex medical journeys into accessible stories for resilient children.

Meet our Founder: Aliyah Jordan

Hi Burrow Bookers,

As a cardiac sonographer, my job is to explore and document the wondrous and complex world inside a child’s heart. From curiosity, amazement, and excitement to outright fear, I have been a firsthand witness to the wide spectrum of emotions a medical appointment can bring. Day after day, bedside and in the darkened clinic rooms, I noticed a concerning pattern. Children would walk into appointments already defeated by the scary mystery of the equipment and the staff surrounding them. It was in these moments that I began to ask myself: How can we make this process better? How do we replace fear of the unknown with knowledge and understanding?

I founded Burrow Books Co. because I realized that while we have incredible technology to heal the body, we lack tools to support the human behind the diagnosis. Stepping out from behind the ultrasound machine, I want to build a literal shelter for families as they navigate their healthcare journey. Medical experiences shouldn’t feel like a scary mystery. Whether it is a routine scan or managing a chronic condition, I believe that no child should feel like a stranger to their own body.

For those unfamiliar with the alphabet soup following my name:

  • RCS: registered cardiac sonographer

  • RCCS: Registered congenital cardiac sonographer

Aliyah’s foundations and clinical expertise

Aliyah completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before completing her specialized cardiac ultrasound certificate program and advanced pediatric training under the Duke University School of Medicine. Driven by a vision to improve pediatric health experiences and education, Aliyah graduated from the Founder Institute startup accelerator program. Her clinical career spans the United States and the United Kingdom through the following leading institutions:

  • Duke University Hospital and Duke Children’s: Where her knowledge and passion for congenital heart defects first took formation

  • Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: The launchpad of her clinical career, where she was able to work alongside world renowned cardiologists.

  • Children’s Hospital Colorado: Expanding her knowledge and practice through her contract work.

  • Great Ormond Street Hospital (London): Transitioning her expertise internationally to one of the historic capitals of pediatric medicine in London.

  • Evelina London Children’s Hospital: Where she currently serves full-time on the clinical frontlines, caring for young hearts daily.

Why books?

We are starting with the page because stories provide a safe, repeatable way for resilient littles to process their journeys at their own pace. But our vision goes far beyond the bookshelf. We are building a health ecosystem where complex clinical practice is translated into language that children will understand.

Through Burrow Books, we are bridging the gap between the bedside and the home. Over time, we will be moving from pages to screens and beyond to ensure every family has a soft place to land.

In the wild, a burrow is a place of safety, preparation, and protection. Our burrow is meant to be a sanctuary of preparation, education, and connection. A safe place to learn and grow is exactly what we want to provide for families navigating the unpredictable paths of the healthcare plains.
